Information for SIP Presentation Day

Saturday, August 18, 8:30 AM – 3:45 PM

Presentation Day marks the end of this year’s Science Internship Program (SIP). It is a full-day science conference with concurrent presentations in four rooms, representing fourteen different disciplines across the University of California Santa Cruz.

Interns, mentors, parents, and guests are invited to UCSC campus to hear from interns as they present the results of their summer’s research. Please see below for more specific information about the event.

Event Details and Agenda
Presentation Day will run from 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM on the UC Santa Cruz campus. The main gathering place for the event will be the College 9/10 Multi-Purpose Room (MPR). Presentations will run in four classrooms in College 9/10 concurrently: Social Sciences 1, room #110 (SS1-110); Social Sciences 2, room #71 (SS2-71); Social Sciences 2, room #75 (SS2-75); and Namaste Lounge (NL; TBC).

8:45 – 10:15 AM Session I: Intern Presentations (SS1-110, SS2-71, SS2-75, & NL)
10:15 – 10:35 AM Mid Morning Break: Refreshments (MPR)
10:35 AM – 12:05 PM Session II: Intern Presentations (SS1-110, SS2-71, SS2-75, & NL)
12:05 – 1:30 PM Lunch Break: Catered Lunch (MPR)
1:30 – 3:15 PM Session III: Intern Presentations (SS1-110, SS2-71, SS2-75, & NL)
3:20 – 3:45 PM Refreshments and Closing Remarks (MPR)

Very limited parking is available in the following lots: #114, #164, #165, and #166. These lots are free on weekends and are located very close to College 9/10 Multi-Purpose Room and Social Sciences buildings. There is extremely limited parking in these lots, however, so if you are planning to arrive on UCSC Campus after 9 AM, please plan to park in the Core West Parking lot.

SIP recommends that the majority of interns and families plan to park in the Core West parking lot. It is free on the weekends. There will be signs indicating the way to the SIP Presentations; please be sure to follow these signs once you park.

Parking Accommodations

If you have a handicap placard please note that there are several spots available next to the College 9/10 Multi-Purpose Room. For individuals who don’t have a handicap placard but do have concerns about mobility, please note that a van will be available to shuttle families from the Core West Parking Lot to the event meeting location. Shuttles will run from 8 – 9 AM and again from 3:45 – 4:45 PM.

SIP will provide mid-morning snacks, lunch, and light refreshments at the end of the day while SIP Director Raja GuhaThakurta wraps up the summer program. We will not have refreshments available first thing in the morning, however; please head directly to the classrooms at 8:30 AM.

Please note that lunch will be a buffet; vegetarian/vegan options will be available.
